4 Things to Make Your Next Show Smoother

Howdy Everyone!

Spring has sprung, and with April showers bringing May flowers, we also usher in the much-anticipated show season! I'm sharing a short and sweet newsletter this time, packed with four golden nuggets to ensure your upcoming competitions are not just successful, but also immensely enjoyable.

4 Tips to a Smoother Show

#1. Embrace the "Celebrity Effect"

Yes, you read that right! Walking into the show arena, imagine there's a spotlight just on you, where every step you take is met with imaginary applause and cheer. Sounds delusional? Sure– but trust me, it's a game changer.

This mindset isn't about feeding the ego; it's about boosting your confidence, making you feel more poised and in control. You’ll do better when you imagine everyone there is cheering you on, not rooting for your doom. Embrace this "celebrity effect," and watch how it positively impacts your performance. Remember, it's all about the attitude!

#2. Humanize the Competition

The arena might feel like a battlefield, but it's crucial to remember that everyone at the show: your competitors, the judges, the trainers; they're all people just like you. They have their own nerves, hopes, and dreams riding on the competition. By seeing them as human instead of “perfect”, you'll not only reduce your own anxiety but also foster a more supportive environment for everyone. Remember, the competition is just another rider, another person like you, who loves their horse and the thrill of the ride. This mindset can transform the competition from intimidating to inspiring.

#3. Dress to Impress

Never underestimate the power of looking your best. A sharp, well-put-together appearance isn't just about making a good impression on the judges or your peers; it's about how it makes you feel. When you look good, you feel good, and this confidence radiates from the inside out. Your attire, grooming, and overall presentation can significantly influence your self-esteem and, by extension, your performance. So, polish those boots, dust off your hat, and step into the arena not just as a competitor, but as a confident, poised individual ready to take on the world.

#4. The Power of a Support System

Last but definitely not least, the value of a strong support system cannot be overstated. Whether it's your trainer giving you those last-minute tips, your husband reminding you to breathe, or your friends cheering you on from the sidelines, these are the people who make the journey worthwhile. They're there to remind you that, at the end of the day, it's all about enjoying the moment. So, lean on them, cherish their presence, and let their encouragement fuel your passion.

As we ride into your next competition, keep these four pillars in mind. They're simple yet powerful, designed to make your competition experience not just smoother, and more fun.

Happy Trails!
