Yes, I Paid A Horse Psychic To Decode My Mare

Hey! Prefer to listen instead of read the Newsletter? I got you! The Resilient Reiner Newsletter also comes as a podcast! 🎙️ Tune in to listen now!
Okay, real talk—your horse isn’t out to get you.
They’re not lazy, disrespectful, or trying to ruin your ride.
Ok, maybe they are a little lazy, but mostly they’re just reacting to the world the only way they know how… and you are a big part of that world.
When you start to see things through your horse’s eyes—when you understand how they interpret your energy, your intentions, your pressure—everything shifts.
This isn’t about becoming some whispery horse psychic. Although no hate on that at all, and to be honest I have hired a horse psychic to decode my mare for me, and it was totally worth it. Email me back if you want her number.
Anyway, it’s about realizing that your horse is always communicating…
👉 You just might be missing what they’re saying.
Today’s email is all about flipping the script—so you can stop assuming your horse is the problem and start creating the kind of partnership that actually works.
Welcome to Day 1 of this powerful (and yeah, maybe slightly uncomfortable) training series: How to Get Your Horse to Actually Listen to You.

Each day this week, you’ll get a short, practical email that blends mindset work, neuroscience, and in-the-saddle strategy—because what’s going on in your brain directly impacts what’s happening under your seat.
Today’s Topic: Day 1: Ugh! You Just Don’t GET IT!! Why Understanding Your Horse’s Perspective Changes Everything (Plus The Mindset Shift That Leads to Long-Term Success).
The Horse’s Natural Instincts
(For maximum impact, read this to yourself in David Attenborough's voice).
Here’s the truth: horses aren’t stubborn or defiant—they’re just trying to survive.
As prey animals, horses are constantly scanning their environment for anything that feels off. They’re highly tuned into your energy, body language, and focus. If they sense tension, confusion, or inconsistency, their instincts kick in, and they act accordingly.
For example, if your horse hesitates when asked to move forward or seems distracted during your ride, it’s not necessarily disobedience. More often than not, it’s a survival-driven response to something they’re perceiving, whether it’s a sudden noise, a subtle shift in your posture, or an internal emotion you may not even realize you’re projecting.
It’s communication. They’re saying, “I’m not sure about this.”
What you need to do about it:
Shift your mindset from criticism to curiosity. Here’s how ⤵️
When your horse doesn’t respond the way you’d like, 👏 don’t take it personally. 👏
Easier said than done. Instead of asking, “Why won’t my horse listen?” …
👉 Here's a better question to ask instead, “What is my horse trying to tell me?”
When you approach with curiosity instead of frustration, you’ll start to see these moments as opportunities to connect and you’ll be able to —and that’s when the magic happens.
If this email gave you that “ohhh... it’s me” moment—good. That’s where everything begins.
Because the truth is, the more you understand your horse’s perspective, the more power you have to influence it. But that kind of clarity? It doesn’t come from doing more drills. It comes from training your mind.
That’s exactly what we do inside the Mental Gym for Equestrians (MGE).
MGE is where western horse riders go to:
✅ Hone their focus
✅ Rewire your subconscious brain and nervous system for peak performance—so you’re ready to roll like a seasoned rodeo horse at the gate, not like a green colt wondering what day it is.
✅ Get mentally ride-ready before your foot ever hits the stirrup
And it's no–this isn’t motivational fluff. It's structured, strategic mental conditioning that rewires the way you ride—from the inside out.
So if you're ready to stop guessing and start leading, join us in MGE, my high-touch group coaching program to take you there. Join us if you’re ready to transform.
But for now—let today be the day you stop taking your horse’s “resistance” personally… And start getting curious instead of critical.
You’ve got this.
